DR JOHANN SNYMAN

Dr Johann Snyman attained his undergraduate medical degree from the University of Pretoria and completed his community service in Heidelberg Gauteng. After more than a decade working as a general practitioner in various roles Dr Snyman decided to pursue Ophthalmology. He attained his Fellowship in Ophthalmology (FCOphth) through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa and his master’s degree in Ophthalmology (MMed) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).

Being employed by International SOS, Dr Snyman gained extensive international experience, working as a general practitioner to the international expat community in China, Vietnam, and Cambodia. He held the position of Medical Director of Clinics China, where he engaged in various managerial projects, including the redesigning and modernising of international clinics and auditing of hospital facilities before the Beijing Olympics to ensure healthcare of the highest standard to delegates.

Dr Snyman worked as a general practitioner in private practise in Heidelberg, Gauteng. Working in a rural area afforded him the ability to gain extensive surgical experience and his interest in advanced eye care technology and microsurgery grew. After more than a decade working as a general practitioner in various roles Dr Snyman decided to pursue Ophthalmology. He attained his Fellowship in Ophthalmology (FCOphth) through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa and his master’s degree in Ophthalmology (MMed) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).

Dr Snyman's commitment to professional development is evident in his work as a consulting ophthalmologist and medical officer at McCord Provincial Eye Hospital through the KZN Department of Health. He has always been motivated to serve and is the founder of Africa20twenty, a non-profit organisation providing pro bono quality cataract surgeries to impoverished communities in rural areas. He serves on the OSSA YO Executive Committee as President and remains dedicated to education and outreach.
