VISION LOSS

There are several types of vision loss. Some forms of vision loss can be treated with surgery or medication. Vision loss is sometimes treatable within a certain time frame and therefore it is important to get a timely diagnosis.

Identifying symptoms of Vision Loss:

PAIN – with sudden vision loss
Some causes of this reduced vision are serious; always seek urgent medical care.

Pain - with gradual vision loss:
Do not delay seeking help.

GRADUAL VISION LOSS WITH NO PAIN:

Unfortunately, people in this particular group tend to delay a comprehensive eye examination. While some of the causes of this are easily reversible, such as cataracts, other possible reasons can be more serious and may not be easily addressed if not treated timely.

SUDDEN VISION LOSS WITH NO PAIN:

This group tends to have serious conditions and should always seek an immediate examination within the same day. Sudden and unexpected vision loss without pain usually impacts structures in the back of the eye, such as the optic nerve or retina. Some of these disorders cannot be treated even if immediate care is provided. Others, like retinal detachment or wet macular degeneration, are time-sensitive and can be fixed if immediate diagnosis and treatment are delivered.
